Outcomes Framework

Attitudes around the food-climate nexus are evolving. We are increasingly beginning to understand the inherent link between environmental, economic and socio-cultural factors and how they influence and affect the way in which our food is produced. The way changes are measured on farms largely focuses on environmental and economic metrics and on practices rather than outcomes.

To address this issue, Regen10 has been developing a farmer-centric Outcomes Framework that is holistic and context-specific, allowing farmers to determine the practices best suited to their desired outcomes.

The Regen10 Outcomes Framework is a farmer-centric, globally co-developed framework that defines what regenerative agrifood systems can and should deliver, across both farm and landscape levels. Co-created through a multi-stakeholder process involving farmers’ organizations, conservation groups, civil society, and business representation, the Outcomes Framework provides a shared point of reference for regenerative outcomes that work across geographies, contexts, and sectors.

It serves as a unifying compass for coherence, credibility, and grounded action, helping align ambition and guide transitions across diverse actors, while remaining flexible enough to adapt to local realities. By offering a shared reference structure, the Framework supports clarity and alignment without prescribing specific practices, indicators, or methodologies.

In December 2023 we published a zero draft of the Regen10 Outcomes Framework, which follows an analysis of more than 150 existing frameworks, and has been developed through engagement with a diverse group of food system actors, including farmers and land stewards.

Since the release of the zero draft Framework, it has been tested and reviewed though trials and consultations, in diverse locations worldwide to understand how farmers would use it and identify what outcomes are the most important to them. To learn more about the Outcomes Framework and the trial process, watch Regen10’s June 2024 Webinar.

Even in its draft form, the Regen10 Outcomes Framework is already informing work across multiple organizations. Partners such as LandScale, One Acre Fund, Rare, and others are referencing it in their ongoing efforts to integrate regenerative outcomes into existing assessment systems, internal stakeholder alignment, and on-the-ground programs.

What the Frameworkoffers

The Framework provides a shared reference for action:

  • A way to align ambition across the diversity of actors shaping food systems, from farmers and local communities to supply chain decision-makers to financiers and policymakers.
  • A common foundation for designing, measuring, and communicating regenerative progress, without imposing a single approach.
  • A bridge between global goals and local realities, supporting context-specific transitions that still contribute to a broader regenerative outcome.

How it can be used

The Framework is designed to be used in many ways by a wide range of actors, depending on where they sit in the food system. It can:

  • Help farmers and other land stewards clarify what regenerative outcomes look like in their context, guiding day-to-day and long-term decisions.
  • Support landscape partnerships and local coalitions to plan transitions that balance ecological, social, and economic goals and assess potential trade-offs.
  • Ground policy, investment, and program design in clearly defined regenerative outcomes, improving coherence across initiatives.
  • Provide a reference for tools, standards, and claims, strengthening the credibility and alignment of regenerative reporting and assessment systems.

Looking ahead

Regen10 and its partners will be publishing the next version of the Regen10 Outcomes Framework in early 2026, and will continue to test, refine, and apply the Outcomes Framework in different contexts throughout 2026 and 2027.

This next phase will help ensure it remains rigorous yet practical, a Framework that connects diverse efforts into a coherent movement for regeneration, built on shared outcomes and locally led action.
